Acıbadem Hospitals Group’s Department of Audiology offers detailed pediatric and adult hearing screening, detailed vertigo assessments, cochlear implants and neonatal hearing tests.

The Audiology Department embraces an interdisciplinary approach to hearing impairments and balance problems and works in close collaboration with other department specialists during the diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation phases.

Our audiology specialists adhere to the regulations of the American Institute of Balance when assessing vertigo and rehabilitation and are up to date with all necessary requirements.

1. VIDEONYSTAGMOGRAPHY:
Videonystagmography (VNG) is a system which comprises a series of different tests which are developed to provide a detailed assessment of balance problems.

Spontaneous Nystagmus Test:
The spontaneous nystagmus test is used to track the involuntary movement of the eye.

Positional Tests:
Positional tests comprise records which are taken when the patient is in different positions. Different channels in both inner ears are assessed separately in order to diagnose Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV).

Gaze -Test, Saccade Testing, Optokinetic Tests:
These methods of testing enable specialists to obtain valuable data to diagnose vertigo by assessing eye movement and nystagmus.

Caloric Irrigation Test:
The caloric irrigation test involves the direct stimulation of the vestibular system with heat-controlled air or water which provides a detailed diagnosis and determines how symmetric the responses between the left and right ears is.

2. VEMP
The Vestibular Evoked Myogenic Potential is an electrophysiological measurement of the function of the saccule and its afferent connections which is used to diagnose vertigo.

3. ABR (BERA)
Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR) is an advanced assessment which is used to determine the type and degree of hearing impairment in young children or adults as well as to evaluate the function of the auditory nerve.

4. Otoacoustic Emission Test (TEOAE and DPOAE)
The purpose of otoacoustic emission tests (OAE) is to determine the hair cell function in the inner ear.

5. Tympanometry and Acoustic Reflex Tests
These are objective tests used to assess the condition of the middle ear.

6. Pediatric and Adult Audiometry
Audiometry hearing tests for adults take place in soundproofed, spacious IAC rooms where tonal purity and speech tests are performed. Pediatric patients are given play audiometry tests. Hearing aid functions can also be assessed in the rooms.
